NEISSERIA GONORRHOEAE by PCR

(batched one time per day must be received by 0800 to be included in daily run).

Specimen Requirements : Female: Endocervical swab specimen collection
  • Remove excess mucus from the exocervix with the large- tipped cleaning swab, provided in the Remel Micro Test Collection System, and discard large -tipped swab.
  • Insert the small-tipped specimen swab into the endocervix and rotate the swab for 15 to 30 seconds to ensure adequate sampling.
  • Visually verify that all of the transport media is at the bottom of the transport tube. Unscrew the cap on the transport tube, insert the small-tipped swab into the transport tube and break the swab at the score line. Replace the cap securely making sure the swab fits into the cap and then screw on the cap until it clicks in place.
  • Label the transport tube with the patient's unique identifiying number, full name, date and time of collection and initials of person collecting specimen.

Male: Urethral swab specimen collection

  • Insert the small-tipped specimen swab 2cm to 4cm into the urethra and rotate the swab for 3 to 5 seconds to ensure adequate sampling. Large-tipped swab is not used in male collection and should be discarded.
  • Visually verify that all of the transport media is at the bottom of the transport tube. Unscrew the cap on the transport tube, insert the small-tipped swab into the transport tube and break the swab at the score line. Replace the cap securely making sure the swab fits into the cap and then screw on the cap until it clicks in place.
  • Label the transport tube with the patient's unique identifiying number, full name, date and time of collection and initials of person collecting specimen.
