Container / Specimen Requirements

 
    Container / Tube: One Lavender top tube
 
    Minimum Volume: 5 ml
Special Handling or Timing of Specimen: Test performed at NHRMC and Cape Fear.
Preparation of Patient: None
Reference Range: Non-reactive.
Positive tests are repeated in duplicate.
Any repeatedly reactive patient is sent to a reference laboratory for Western Blot confirmation.
Causes for Specimen Rejection:  Improper labeling.
Hemolysis.
