Methodology: Reaction is based on the relative insolubility of Hemoglobin-S when combined with a buffer and a reducing agent.

Adult:

2.5 mL lavender Vacutainer® tube (EDTA)

Neonate:

lavender Microtainer® (EDTA)
    Minimum Volume: 0.5 ml
Special Handling or Timing of Specimen: Test performed at NHRMC only
Preparation of Patient: None
Reference Range: Negative
(The Sickledex® test is a qualitative test and does not distinguish between sickle cell disease (SS) and sickle cell trait (AS). All positive tests should be furthur evaluated by hemoglobin electrophoresis.)
