Container / Specimen Requirements

Avoid use of  separator tube
    Container / Tube: Red or Green (lithium heparin) Vacutainer® tube
 
    Minimum Volume: 1 ml
Special Handling or Timing of Specimen: Oral dose - draw 2 hours after dose.
Slow release - draw 4 hours after dose.

IV infusion: wait 30 minutes after loading dose and resample at 4-8 hour intervals.

IV bolus: Draw 30 minutes after infusion completed.
Preparation of Patient: Avoid caffeine 24 hours prior
Reference Range: 10 - 20 mg/mL; Toxic: >20mg/mL
Causes for Specimen Rejection:  Improper labeling
