    Container / Tube: Yellow serum separator Vacutainer® tube or Green Vacutainer® tube (lithium heparin) or Red Vacutainer® tube  
    Minimum Volume: 1 ml
Special Handling or Timing of Specimen: Blood specimens are drawn at 0, 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours following ingestion of lactose loading dose
Test performed at NHRMC only
Preparation of Patient: A standard dose of lactose administered orally
Reference Range:

Normal:

14 - 62 mg/dL rise in glucose over fasting level

Lactose Intolerance:

2 - 11 mg/dL rise in glucose over fasting leve
Causes for Specimen Rejection:  Improper labeling
