Container / Specimen Requirements

 
    Container / Tube: Gray Vacutainer® tube (sodium fluoride/potassium oxylate)
 
    Minimum Volume: Tube must be at least half full
Special Handling or Timing of Specimen: Teast performed at NHRMC only
Specimen must be collected on ice and delivered to the lab immediately
Specimen must be collected in tubes that are at least half full
Preparation of Patient: None
Reference Range:

0.4 - 2.0 mmol/L

Critical Value: > 4.0 mmol/L

Causes for Specimen Rejection:  Improper labeling
Specimen not on ice
