Container / Specimen Requirements

Must be labeled with Baby's name and medical record number.

Also will accept samples labeled with mother's name and medical record number. Sample must also be visibly labeled as "CORD BLOOD". Label must include phlebotomist initials, date and time drawn.
    Container / Tube: 7 ml pink or lavender Vacutainer® tube
    Minimum Volume: 1 ml
Special Handling or Timing of Specimen: Test performed at NHRMC only.
Preparation of Patient: None

Direct Coombs:

Negative
(If positive, an antibody identification will be performed)
Causes for Specimen Rejection:  Improper labeling
Hemolysis.
Serum separator gel tubes.
