New Hanover Regional Medical Center realizes that advances in medical treatments and procedures happen very rapidly. In order to provide the best care for every patient who comes through our doors, it is imperative to stay abreast of these changes. NHRMC is a leader in using advanced technology for medical procedures but we also strive to adopt technology to make your experience more comfortable.
Da Vinci Surgical System
NHRMC's addition of the da Vinci Surgical System has given surgeons an alternative to open and conventional laparoscopic surgeries. Using this robotic system enables surgeons to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision. This means shorter hospital stays, less time to heal and better outcomes for our patients.
Open Bore MRI
For patients who are not comfortable fitting into a traditional MRI, NHRMC is one of the few hospitals in the state to provide the open MRI. This new technology is able to produce the same high-field results as a conventional scanner, but gives you the option of remaining outside of the tunnel. To ease some of the anxiety and boredom out of the sometimes long tests that require you to lie still, a virtual reality DVD player is available while you are being scanned.
We realize hospitalizations can cause anxiety and stress for patients and families. We want to ease your fears and make you comfortable during treatment of your medical needs so you can focus on recovery. Being armed with knowledge can help relieve stress, so our Surgical Pavilion is equipped with patient tracking boards so waiting family members can see exactly where a patient is in the prep, surgery and recovery process. In some renovated parts of the hospital, call bells connect directly to your nurse rather than being routed to a central station, so she or he can be easily reached between routine care visits. Bedside computers allow for charting to be done bedside allowing you more time with your caregivers to ask questions.
Renovated parts of the hospital contain many of the comforts of home, including family lounges with washers, dryers and kitchens as well as wireless Internet access. These allow family members to remain with patients longer as an active part of the healing process. HVAC systems allow patients to set room temperatures to their individual preference, allowing you to be as comfortable as possible during your recovery.
