Surgical Oncology

Often called the foundation of cancer care, surgical procedures figure prominently in most cancer treatment plans. Surgeons perform procedures to remove all or part of a cancerous growth, to analyze a growth to determine whether it is malignant or benign, or to stage a cancer - a measure of how far the disease has progressed.

Surgical oncology procedures at NHRMC take place in the NHRMC Surgical Pavilion, a newly designed surgical center that incorporates a remarkable array of next generation operating room technology. Surgical oncologists use this technology in concert with their own sets of highly specialized skills to perform traditional open procedures, laparoscopic procedures, as well as minimally invasive surgery performed with the da Vinci Robotic Surgery system.
