Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency

Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency

Welcome to the residency training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New Hanover Regional Medical Center where faculty and staff are committed to creating and sustaining an optimal educational environment.

Training in our ACGME accredited program offers exposure to the full range of obstetrics and gynecologic subspecialties while maintaining a focus on the primary care aspects of our specialty. Our full-time faculty members include maternal fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology and reproductive endocrinology, as well as a new perinatal center which allows our residents to provide perinatal care for patients in a state of the art facility. Our faculty is complemented by over 38 volunteer clinical faculty members who actively participate in the education of our residents as well. Residency training at New Hanover Regional Medical Center provides a wealth of clinical experience and, since our department does not offer fellowships, residents are directly involved with the primary caregivers for patients on the subspecialty services.

As you explore our program, you will see that we are truly committed to medical education. Residents are scheduled one-half day per week of protected academic time (Wednesday afternoons), as well as one hour on Friday mornings for our Grand Rounds. We comply with the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) duty hour requirements through the use of a Night Float system for after-hours coverage.

We appreciate your interest in our residency training program and invite you to visit us, evaluate our program and explore the many opportunities that await you at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
