Local survivors invited to NHRMC Cancer Survivors’ Celebration 08/14/2012 WILMINGTON – From the moment a person is diagnosed with cancer, they become a survivor. They belong to a community of people who understand that survivorship is about working with a team of physicians, nurses and caregivers to fight the disease. It also means appreciating the little joys that previously may have gone overlooked. New Hanover Regional Medical Center wants to celebrate these joys and accomplishments at its first Cancer Survivors’ Celebration on Sunday, September 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center.
Cancer survivors, their caregivers, family and friends are invited to enjoy live music and entertainment, visit with physicians, nurses and other providers offering care at the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center, and share their personal messages of hope, courage and triumph with other survivors.
“Whether they were recently diagnosed or they finished their treatments years ago, it is incredibly important for cancer survivors to know that they have the support of their family, friends and community,” says Chad Knight, administrator of the NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center. “We are excited to offer local survivors the opportunity to share their encouragement and their messages of hope with each other.”
Registration for the event is required and can be made online at www.nhrmc.org/celebrate or by calling 910.815.5188. Participants will be given the opportunity to share their message or story of hope, courage or triumph to help others with cancer see the joy and promise of tomorrow. Submissions may be featured as part of the NHRMC Cancer Survivors’ Celebration.
