Prescription Voucher Service

Who is eligible?

Any patient who is unable to pay for medications, has no other resources to assist with payment AND either has been:

  • Discharged from New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Cape Fear Hospital, NHRMC Rehabilitation Hospital or the Behavioral Health Hospital
  • Seen in the NHRMC Outpatient Clinics
  • Seen in the Emergency Department at NHRMC or Cape Fear Hospital

What does this service provide?

  • About a 2-week supply of medication for patients discharged from the Emergency Department or after a stay as an inpatient
  • About a 1-month supply of medication for patients seen in the Outpatient Clinics

Medications cannot be dispensed without proper authorization.

How can you participate in this program?

  • You have to be seen by an authorized representative before leaving the hospital, Emergency Department or clinic to qualify
  • You must get medication vouchers from an authorized representative, usually someone from Clinical Resources/Social Work
  • Bring your medication voucher along with your prescriptions to the Outpatient Pharmacy located in the Medical Mall
  • Only medications for which you have vouchers can be dispensed
  • If the Outpatient Pharmacy is closed, your representative will direct you to a specific pharmacy in the area for pickup.  This option will only be used if it is considered necessary.  Otherwise, you will be asked to return to the Outpatient Pharmacy on the next business day to fill your prescriptions.

Prescription Assistance Service

Who is eligible?

  • Patients who qualify to receive medications from pharmaceutical companies, based on income.
  • Any patient seen in the NHRMC Outpatient Clinics

What does this service provide?

  • Chronic medications for patients seen in the Outpatient Clinics

How can you participate in this program?

  • You must be referred by the Outpatient Clinics
  • You must provide household financial documentation

Already in the program?

  • Contact your representative at the Outpatient Pharmacy when you have used almost half of your supply of medications so that your medication may be reordered
  • Each time you receive a new prescription, you must present the prescription to you representative at the Outpatient Pharmacy so that the medication may be ordered as soon as possible
  • If you receive a letter that your medication has arrived:
    • Present this letter at the Outpatient Pharmacy to pick up your medication
    • Be sure to check with your representative for reorder
