Emergency and Trauma

NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital Emergency Department

People living or staying in the Wrightsville Beach area can find convenient and friendly emergency care at NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital.  Although most trauma patients will be transferred to the trauma center at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital has a 24-hour full-service emergency department with the staff and technology needed to handle most emergencies.  The NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital Emergency Department provides care for more than 38,000 patients annually.

Treatment Team

The NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians employed by Eastern Carolina Emergency Physicians (ECEP) and supported by 24-hour radiology and laboratory services. Nurses are required to be certified in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support),  PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course), TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course), or BTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support).  They are also encouraged to obtain their CEN (Certificate in Emergency Nursing).

Gateway to Orthopedic Center

For many people, the Emergency Department at NHRMC Orthopedic Hospital serves as the gateway to the network's Orthopedic Center.  The Orthopedic Center is in the hospital, providing the majority of the network's orthopedic care.  The Orthopedic Center has staff specially trained to deal with bone muscle, joint, ligament, tendon and nerve injuries.
