Special Events

The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation hosts a number of special events each year to thank donors and bring new donors into the Foundation family.  These annual events are a fun way to come together and help special projects in the hospital.  In addition to the Foundation-organized annual events listed below, there are other community-led events that raise needed funds and provide more opportunities to become involved.

Annual Events

Founders' Gala is a black-tie event that brings together some of NHRMC Foundation's dearest friends.  The 2009 Founders' Gala, presented by Monteith Construction, was held Saturday January 24, at the Coastline Convention Center in historic Wilmington, North Carolina. The evening, as in years past, featured cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, provided by the area's finest chefs and restaurants.  The 2009 event raised over $55,000 to provide funding to renovate an area of the Emergency Department and create a pediatric friendly environment for children and babies visiting the ER.  The 2010, 10th Anniversary Event, is scheduled for January 23.

Red Dress Luncheon and Fashion Show benefits NHRMC's Heart Center. This event is part of the national "Heart Disease Awareness Month" activities to educate women about heart disease, currently the leading cause of death among women. The 2009 Red Dress Luncheon and Fashion Show was held February 6, 2009 at the Country Club of Landfall.  The event raised over $30,000 to support prevention and education in our community.  The 2010 event will be held February 5 at the Hilton Riverside.

Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament celebrates its 17th year in May 2009. (May 1-2)  This captain's choice golf tournament, presented again by First Citizens Bank, is held at The Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye course.  This event includes celebrity entertainment, silent and live auctions and great golf! Proceeds from this year's event will support Cape Fear Hospital.

Pink Ribbon Project Events are held throughout the month of October to provide needed funds for cancer services at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. These services include the Healing Arts Network, Coastal Care Van and Pink Ribbon comfort bags. In addition to the annual Pink Ribbon breakfast, lunch and dinner there are a number of third-party and community partner events hosted by local business' and organizations held through out the month of October. Our 2009 Third Party events raised over $85,000 for the NHRMC Pink Ribbon Project.  The 2009 Pink Ribbon breakfast, lunch and dinner, presented by Delaney Radiologists,  will be held Thursday, October 7th  at the Holiday Inn, Sunspree at Wrightsville Beach.

The Bill Wright Award

The annual Bill Wright Volunteer Award is presented to an extraordinary volunteer that has participated in one of the Foundation's special events or other capacity that benefits and helps the Foundation meet its mission and exemplifies Bill's enthusiasm for volunteerism and good sports-manship.  Bill Wright served on the Foundation's Board of Directors as well as General Chair for the Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf Tournament.
